Here's one you don't hear of often. Leonard had some big hits in the 80's and 90's, but have since fallen to the background in the world of perfume (here in North America anyway, they're still actively releasing scents in Europe). LdL was their signature house scent and best represents the style of perfumery at the time of release.
If I had to sum things up, I'd say Silences (Jacomo) with fruit. Both Leonard and Silences have the standard green-chypre mold, but veer in different directions. Silences gets more dry and raspy with each passing minute, while Leonard maintains a subtle volume and is overall more powdery and plush...both put an emphasis on iris in the heart. Silences has more of a mossy character, Leonard is tidier and finishes with a clean, floral musk...not unlike that of Anais Anais (same perfumer). Both last (and last and last)...something rare with today's perfumes.
Sadly this was discontinued at some point...bottles can still be found on eBay and at various Internet discounters. Worth a sniff if you're into not-yet-ripe fruity chypres.
Year: 1989
Perfumer: Roger Pellegrino
Notes: Lemon, Galbanum, Hyacinth, Bergamot, Orris, Muguet, Ylang-Ylang, Carnation, Rose, Sandal, Musk, Amber, Cedar
Seeing as it's when they get ripe that a chypre with fruit gets tossed off my wagon, I'll make an effort to find a hit of this, at least.
ReplyDeleteLeonard was totally not on my radar. Thanks for the introduction.
