Angel Eau de Toilette (Thierry Mugler)

I really hate this new practice of naming flankers by their concentration...if it confuses me, it surely must confuse the everyday shopper. That being said, at least the use of "Noir" "Eau Legere" and "La Nuit" are becoming less frequent. /rant

Aside from the stupid name, the latest Angel flanker is quite nice. Angel Innocent was a decent effort at lightening the overall structure of the beast, but it lost a lot of the interest that went along with it. The summer editions have all be okay, but again, only made one crave the real thing...and possibly a cool day on which to wear it. Angel EDT focuses on the original's candied-pineapple opening and making it last as long as possible. Surprisingly, it does quite well for a while, but then naturally the high-pitched, fruity notes fade and what's left is a spare, powder-puff musk drydown in place of the hairy-chested patchouli we've all come to love. The most noticeable change for me, however, was the lack of floral notes, and although this makes for an easier scent to wear, it removed the crass contrast that made the original what it is.

Mugler has never failed in the bottle department, and Angel EDT is no exception. Lovely to look at and lovely to hold. Now if only they'd halt their practice of hiring an inconsistent spokeswoman, they'd be all set.

Year: 2011
Perfumer: Amandine Maret
